One of the interesting aspects of Qualcomm Wireless event in San Diego brought the advancement of making augmented reality avatars possible through 5G!
This possibility of avatars will be because of high bandwidth and low latency as in such factors the processing can shift from the device to the cloud.
This means along with the rollout of distributed data centres; one can have realistic virtual pets and friends or also visit remote locations virtually!
Through virtual reality you can not only feel you were there but your avatar would be visible to people there!
This creates an astonishing path to immortality by the advancement capability of creating digital clones of people and pets. Thus, this will create a pathway to interesting future possibilities and scopes for a better business !
Along with so many benefits there are a few limitations too while creating a realistic AR experience: -
● Optics
Developers need to create the image look realistic, and they must provide the new image which looks more realistic and does not clash with the Reality!
Right now, AR glasses provide an experience where reality breaks through, and the provided image looks like a cartoon.
Also, the glasses have to look good when you wear them. Human always take the look element ahead!
One of the biggest failure examples of failure of 3D TVs was that we were not comfortable to wear weird glasses. This might be the biggest problem to overcome.
● Computing Power
The power required would be more than a workstation power, how would you alone place something like that on your head or anywhere on your body and take it everywhere with you.
Walking around with one of those backpack workstations with double powered batteries would make you go nuts and I doubt whether it would provide the required performance or not.
● Content
Now for non-living objects like furniture, creating content is quite easy with a 3D scanner and technology that already exists.
But, if you want a virtual pet that behaves like a normal pet, or a virtual human that behaves like a normal human, you have to code the personalities, this has been beyond our capability till today.
Moving the processing to the cloud allows unlimited space without the need to carry a workstation on our physical body — a solution for limitation of computing power.
Also, the extra processing power can develop an artificial intelligence that behaves in a realistic way just like an animal or even a human.
Optics are still a problem, but there is always a hope for its solution in the near future!
Virtual Humans and Pets
One of the problems for people who are entering the work location or who have a job that requires a lot of travel & are always on the move then such situations make it sort of impractical to have the company of a pet wherever they want.
There are many people who travel with their pets, but while working having a pet is still problematic. Though there are few companies who allow pets in the work space, but most of the companies do not!
In an article by Gartner, it has been said that Some technologies will provide SuperHuman Capabilities, and AR is one of them!
Let us suppose that if you have a virtual pet which is visible only to you? It could always be with you. If linked to an Artificial Intelligence, it actually can guide you to locations as a GPS solution, have a conversation with you like a smart digital assistant! This possibility can fulfil your need for company of a pet instead of a burden of a living pet.
Just like you could develop a living pet that would have superpowers, what if you could make a human companion. That human companion could be developed as a copy of a real person but could be changed with the characteristics that might annoy you.
What a pleasure in witnessing your own clone! What if you could recreate yourself and develop a virtual clone which could be the top version of yours. That clone can be your advisor as you would trust your own version more than any other person! This virtual version of you could go beyond your life, as long as the technology would exist to advise your future generation.
